01

Request a Developmental Evaluation

For children under 3, contact your county's Department of Health. For children ages 3 to 5, reach out to your local Committee on Preschool Special Education.

02

Receive a Comprehensive Assessment

Once referred, a team of specialists will assess your child’s strengths and needs to determine eligibility for services under New York State guidelines.

03

Develop an IFSP or IEP Plan

Children under 3 may be found eligible for an Individualized Family Service Plan. Children ages 3 to 5 may be found eligible for an Individualized Education Program.

04

Start Services and Support

If your child qualifies, services are provided at no direct cost to your family and are funded through federal, state, and local programs. These supports are tailored to your child’s needs.
